We have previously visited the old Lion Park in Fourways, but this new park is much better. The old Lion Park closed and moved to this new site. The Park is a 600 hectare wilderness reserved situated in the Hartebeespoort, Magaliesburg and Cradle of Humankind area.

We chose the mini safari tour at a cost of R330 per person, which was an hour and a half tour of the Lions, Wild Dogs, Hyena’s and Leopard camps, on the way you can see zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, buck and ostrich. The tour guide was very informative and we were lucky enough to have the whole tour bus to ourselves, there was no one else going at the time.

The entire park is clean and well maintained and offers much better facilities than the previous park, a great upgrade and well worth a visit.

We headed out on our tour at around 11am to the 3 Lion enclosures, to check the lions sleeping in the shade…

It was interesting to find out about the pride, how they socialize and about the male lions when they reach the age that they express their dominance in the pride. We even found one of the female lions up in a tree, it was cooler up there than lying on the ground.

The wild dog camp had 9 dogs in it but we could hardly see them in the long grass, with only their ears sticking out.

So off we went to the Hyena and Leopard camp. On the way we saw a number of buck, zebra and giraffe.

The female leopard came to welcome us to her camp and walked up and down the fence, purring loudly as she walked.

On return from our tour at around 1pm, we decided to walk around and get a bite to eat. The rest of the facility’s are superb, there is a great outdoor restaurant that offers a wide variety of meals like Pizza, Pasta, Burgers, salads and platters. They have a kiddies play area, a Grill restaurant and an ice cream parlor. Fun day out for the whole family.
