This beautiful restaurant is hidden away off Main Road in Fourways with no signage to show directions but well worth the trip. We enjoyed the 30min ride out to this venue, the service was great and the food was fresh and tasty.

Great indoor and outdoor seating under covered canvass tops or just under the trees. There is a small kiddies play area and the venue has a number of iron works artwork on sale.

We visited Humble Harry’s restaurant at Leaping Frog centre in Fourways today. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and the staff are extremely friend, and the food is tasty and fresh.

We took my dad out for breakfast this morning, so it was great to spend some family time with him today.

The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. A great venue to just relax and enjoy a great meal.

Velmore Hotel

4 Star Hotel

Type: Accomodation and Restaurant

Website: http://velmorehotel.co.za

We came across this hotel on one of our breakfast runs around Hartebeespoort and made a note to return and try try it out. The hotel has huge grounds, a few conference venues and a beautiful spa. The building is unique with old rustic designs and the water features add to the ambiance and give it character.

The interior of the hotel has beautiful luxury finishes and we were thoroughly impressed by the food in the restaurant. Normally food in all hotels buffet style is cold, unappetizing, bland and tasteless. We asked if they had an a la carte menu, but to our surprise the buffet was delicious, warm and inviting. The hotel also offers a relaxing bar area with indoor and outdoor seating.

We took a walk around the gardens and found the pool area is designed specifically for weddings and events.

The Potato Shed

At Newtown Junction

Type: Restaurant

We decided to venture into town today to this hip new venue in the heart of Newtown.

The vibe is amazing, the setting is perfect and the food is exceptional. Trying out the Calamari, Chilli corn and the Red beef burger. We are even trying the Soweto Gold – Gogo Ginger Ale, first for us and absolutely loving it.

I would highly recommend a trip to Newtown and to pop in at the Potato Shed for a bite to eat.

The Kitchen Bar

We came to a local restaurant today at Design Quarter in Fourways.

Type: Restaurant

Website: http://www.thekitchenbar.co.za/

This is a really great restaurant with a great menu and a great vibe. The staff are friendly and efficient and the food is generous and delicious.

Great outdoor and indoor seating for all occasions, and with 520 seats available it makes this restaurant one of the biggest in the country. We came on a breakfast run this morning and ordered a traditional breakfast and a KB Bacon Rosti breakfast. The portions were large and very tasty.

They offer an extensive menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner and everything in between. Their platters are also a great alternative and a great selection of platters and cocktails are available.

Bakery and Cafe in Harties

Type: Restaurant

Website: https://www.vovotelo.co.za/

We visited Vovo Telo Restaurant in Hartebeespoort and was pleasantly surprised by the venue, service and food. It was a great morning out on the bike.

It is a relatively small cost little restaurant but exceptional service. They have indoor and outdoor seating with a huge tree in the parking lot that you can go and smoke under. They also have an inhouse bakery that makes breads, rolls and other pastries.

I would recommend Vovo Telo for a visit when in the Harties area. 5 out of 5 from us.

Cafe Beyritz

Lynnwood Bridge in Pretoria

Type: Restaurant

Website: http://www.cafebeyritz.co.za/

We took an hour ride out to this restaurant this morning in Lynnwood Bridge. The waiters were extremely friendly and there is an awesome atmosphere created at Cafe Beyritz. The breakfast was one of the best we have had, with their unique touch and flavour. We were pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed it. Two thumbs up to the chef.

Seating can be indoors or outside on the sidewalk style cafe. There are a number of eateries to choose from, so we will definitely return in future to try out one of the others. Easy access off the N1 and easy to find. Try it out next time you are looking for a new place with great food.

La Vie en Rose

Killarney Country Club

Type: Restaurant

Website: http://lavieenrose.co.za/

We took a 40 minute ride out to the Killarney Country Club to visit La Vie en Rose restaurant. It has a great atmosphere and equally great food. The service was fast and friendly with both indoor and outdoor seating.

We had a great time and a hearty breakfast was well received. The menu is quite extensive catering for Breakfast, Lunch and Supper. La Vie also serves as a function venue for birthdays, baby showers, engagements or any other surprise party of your choice.

Silver Orange Bistro

In Hartebeespoort

Type: Restaurant

Website: http://www.silverorangebistro.co.za/

We have reached our final restaurant in our quest to visit 52 places in 52 weeks, and what a year it has been. Silver Orange Bistro is a worthy finale, they definitely rank in our top 3 places to visit. We were shown to our table right next to the fireplace, which they don’t normally light early morning but did for us as it was particularly cold this morning.

They have indoor and outdoor seating available dependent on the weather and the occasion.

We were surprised at the menu that offers a unique taste experience with Fillet kebabs or smoked trout options in the breakfast menu and Duck, Ostrich or Springbok in the mains menu.

What a taste explosion and 5 star quality food on your plate for a very reasonable price. Then at the end of your meal just when you think you are done and can’t fit anything more in, they bring you a complimentary scone with cream.

Follow the path down through the citrus trees to the Almost Orange bar and Gin tasting venue. They offer beers and platters for a lazy Saturday afternoon in amongst the citrus plantation.

This is worth the trip and a second or third visit during the warm summer months. Bookings are essential as it fills up quickly.

Ox Wagon Lodge

Type: Accommodation and Restaurant

Website: http://www.oxwagonlodge.co.za/

Situated on the koppie just before descending into Hartebeespoort, Ox Wagon Lodge is hidden away in the bush.

‘This living museum and private hideaway for nature lovers is where you relive the romance of the early Pioneers and Jock of the Bushveld era. The Oxwagon Lodge is a unique concept combining original ossewa with some modern comforts, in an atmosphere of friendliness, bird song and beautiful trees.’ – website.

Below is a picture of the quaint accommodation and the view from the lodge over the Hartebeespoort valley and dam.

Each Lodge has an ossewa attached to it and this is the bedroom or at least the bed where you will sleep for the night like Jan van Riebeck or Simon van der Stel…

This makes this a very unique experience and something you will remember for years to come.

The restaurant and bar area is situated in the middle of the half moon shaped accommodation so you feel what it felt like in those days when the ossewa provided the only form of protection against the enemy and animal predators.

The Ox Wagon Lodge offers a special experience for parties, conferencing, weddings or just a romantic weekend away for two. The Ox Wagon Restaurant serves Sunday lunch including oxtail potjiekos, real farm bread baked in an old handmade oven and other traditional dishes.
